i wants to go little bit in more detail. when the sphere was above the earth surface then its centre of gravity will lie little bit below from its centre this is simply bcoz value of g on upper haif of sphere will be slightly less then the lower haif.
on the other hand when sphere is placed below the surface of earth then value of g will be more on upper part of sphere hence centre of gravity will lie little bit above the centre of mass.
hence centre of gravity will NOT conclide in thease two cases.
