IIT Delhi has five main boards under Students Affairs Council (SAC), for promoting extracurricular activities in all dimensions. These are as under:
Board for Recreational and Cultural Activities (BRCA) :
The BRCA is composed of 9 clubs under it. Students interested in drama, music, art or indoor games can join the Dance & Dramatics Club, Music Club, Fine Arts Club and Indoor Sport Club, respectively.
Students who wish to pursue different hobbies can find creative expression for their interests in the Photography and Hobbies society. The English Debating and Literary Club, Hindi Samiti and Quizzing Club offer ample opportunities for literary expression.
The Film Series Committee organizes regular shows of feature films from different countries. The activities organized include inter-hostel and inter-college competitions as well as non-competitive events.The inter-hostel events under all the 9 clubs keep the students busy in the hoard for points to lift the most-coveted BRCA trophy at the end of the year.
The BRCA also organizes an annual inter-college cultural festival "Rendezvous" in the first semester to encourage interaction between IIT and various colleges and to promote competition of high standard. Teams from a large number of colleges and Institutes all over the country participate in this annual event. Rendezvous comprises competitive as well as a few non-competitive events of drama, dance, music, oration, art, quizzing etc.
Held over 5 days, with 70 events, 350 participating colleges and 40,000 footfalls, it is the biggest cult-fest of North India. The huge 8-figure budget is completely managed by the students to organize this cult fest which attracts people from almost all colleges of the Delhi University/ JNU and other colleges around the country. The biggest events held in OAT are Blitzkreig (The Rock Show, where likes of Parikrama are seen performing,) Dhoom (The ProNite), Kaliedoscope(The Choreography/ Life Style Competition) and Spectrum (The Group Dance competition). Also, major attractions are Loat Poat (Hasya Kavi Sammelan), Podium (DJ) and RDX (Rain Dance by the pool). In the second semester, BRCA organizes cultural events during the students' week like Institute Dance Production, Institute Play Production, Malhaar (Indian Music), Distortionaire (Rock performance) along with a festival `Virasat' organized by SPICMACAY. During this festival, professionals hold Lec-Dems in order to expose the students to various forms of Indian classical music, dance, drama and other arts and crafts.
Board for Sports Activities (BSA):
The BSA aims to encourage a healthy body along with a healthy mind. Almost all sports are played at IIT ranging from cricket, hockey, football, volleyball to skating, badminton, lawn tennis and athletics.
Thus students have a large number of choices to ensure their fitness. National level coaches of all sports are also present. In fact often National and International athletes can be seen practicing on campus.
