Eight students of the Sathyabama University here were Tuesday arrested for the murder of an engineering student of Dr. M.G.R. University, police said.

Nirbhay Kumar Singh of Ranchi was murdered Monday over what police said was competition among students from outside Tamil Nadu over getting freshers from their region admissions into city universities.

Police arrested Sanjay Kumar Singh, Vivek Kumar Singh, Rohan Sinha, Samrat, Ranjit Kumar, Prabat Kumar, Nishan Chowdary and Saurav Chandra. A hunt is on for 12 other students.

It is believed that senior students from Jharkhand and Bihar facilitate admission of freshers from their states in the deemed universities in Chennai under the management quota involving large sums of money.
