use kirchoff's law assuming the total current to be I drwan from positive end of 10 v cell.... it splits at the junction to i(towards 5 ohm and I - i towards 5 v ) now writing the Kirchoffs eqn for the voltage in loop having 10 v we get -5 i + 10 = so i = 2 amp

The answer is 3A. Use nodal analysis. If U dont know how to use it, check this article-
http://www.goiit.com/posts/list/community-shelf-circuit-solving-was-never-so-easy-67415.htm
If u still dont get it, tell me. I will post the solution with diagram.

atul, the question is right. when u'll come to know the answer, u'll be shocked really. anyway, i m not going to tell the answer because many tricky ques r solved by seeing the answer. i know the answer only, not soln. waitng for it.

physicaly speaking , current choose the path of least resistance.
Internal resistance of batteries r very low. ( << 5 ohm ).

it can be solved by superposition principle
first we consider only 5v battery..
entire current becuse of 5v battery will flow through 10v battery as it has
negligible resistance.and not through 5 ohm resistance
current distribution in two parellel resistance
i_1=\frac{r_2 }{r_1+r_2 } i
then we consider only 10v battery..
entire current becuse of 10v battery will flow through 5v battery but in
opposite sense as it has negligible resistance..and not through 5 ohm
resistance.
thus when we superimpose the two results..
we get zero current through 5 ohm resistance
